Strong links with the UIAA and mountain federations

Increasing technical knowledge to reduce the safety gap for mountain leaders, including professionals who need our help the most, is a vocation of the Petzl Foundation. This is mainly achieved through training. Since 2006, the Petzl Foundation has worked closely with the International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation (UIAA), which includes national federations, to promote good safety practice worldwide.

A joint project was initiated with the UIAA Mountain Committee, headed by Pierre Humblet, to develop training plans in the UIAA standards for national federations. The Technical Manual created in 2008 by the Petzl Foundation will now become the standard handbook for all safety training.
Several federations, such as those in India, Russia, Turkey and France have already expressed their desire to commit to the Petzl Foundation to help those who wish to learn about the mountain professions.
“I do believe that together we can achieve great things that will promote mountain safety and also help us preserve the environment that we hold so dear, for the benefit of all / to our mutual benefit.”
Mike Mortimer, UIAA president.
